Chitwan: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that continuing the struggle from “darkness to light” is the highest tribute to BP Koirala. Speaking at the inauguration of the Ward Office and BP Memorial Building in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-11, Thapa stated that BP’s legacy demands a sustained fight for democratic ideals.

“BP Koirala struggled not for himself but for the people,” Thapa said. “That struggle is timeless, and we must carry it forward.”

He expressed concern that Congress leaders and cadres may be straying from BP’s vision, urging them to fulfill their responsibility to uphold his values. Thapa asserted that Nepali Congress has stood by its principles—transforming from monarchy to republic, and upholding democracy—and called on party members to promote this legacy.

At the same event, Congress Central Treasurer Umesh Shrestha emphasized the importance of internal unity within the party, stating that a united Congress would lead a strong opposition and effective nation-building.

Central members Uma Regmi, Madhu Acharya, Tek Prasad Gurung, and Anjani Shrestha also encouraged youth to embody BP’s principles in their political journey. Other speakers included Chitwan Congress leaders Rajeshwor Khanal, Jit Narayan Shrestha, Nirmal Poudel, and Gyanendra Karki, who discussed BP’s historic role in shaping Nepali democracy.

The BP Memorial Building, initiated in 2077 BS, was officially inaugurated during the program. Built at a cost of Rs 6.635 million on 15 katthas of land donated by Maiyadevi Shrestha, the building stands as a tribute to BP’s enduring legacy.
